Kuwait celebrated its National Day (اليوم الوطني) on June 19 to mark the anniversary of its full independence, achieved on June 19, 1961, when Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah signed the treaty terminating the 1899 Anglo-Kuwaiti Agreement. The 1964 celebration marked the Third Anniversary of National Independence (الذكرى الثالثة لليوم الوطني), honoring the nation's transition into a sovereign constitutional state, its admission to the United Nations, and its rapid economic and civic development.

To commemorate this national milestone on June 19, 1964, Kuwait’s postal administration issued a special commemorative set printed by Joh. Enschedé in Netherlands. Releasing dedicated postage for National Day served to foster patriotic unity, celebrate sovereign statehood, and highlight Kuwait's peaceful international relations during the early era of its post-independence constitutional government.
