Population Census - 8 fils

The General Population Census (التعداد العام للسكان) conducted in April 1965 was a crucial national undertaking for Kuwait during its early post-independence era. Following its rapid economic growth driven by the oil boom, the country experienced significant demographic shifts, urbanization, and an influx of foreign workers. Conducting a comprehensive, systematic census provided government ministries with the essential statistical data needed to execute multi-year urban development plans, allocate public resources, and design national housing, education, and healthcare infrastructure.

To mark this major civic milestone in April 1965, Kuwait’s postal administration issued a dedicated commemorative stamp series printed by Joh. Enschedé in the Netherlands. Releasing special postage for the population census served to raise civic awareness and encourage public participation, framing demographic data collection as a vital tool for national strategic planning, social stability, and sustainable economic progress.
