Education Day (يوم العلم) in Kuwait was established as an annual national observance to celebrate academic achievement, scientific progress, and the ongoing modernization of the country’s educational system. Following independence in 1961, the Kuwaiti government prioritized universal, state-funded public education, expanding primary and secondary schools and preparing for the founding of Kuwait University in 1966. The annual event served to honor outstanding students, educators, and scholars while encouraging the youth to pursue higher learning and scientific inquiry. To mark Education Day on April 15, 1964, Kuwait’s postal administration issued a commemorative stamp set printed by Joh. Enschedé in the Netherlands. Releasing dedicated postage for this occasion highlighted the state's vision of bridging its rich maritime heritage with modern scientific advancement. The issue underscored national pride in educational development, framing learning and literacy as essential pillars for building a prosperous post-independence society.
