The celebration of Mother’s Day (عيد الأم) on March 21 in the Arab world was first introduced in Egypt in 1956 through the efforts of journalist Mustafa Amin, who proposed dedicating a specific date to honor maternal sacrifice and central family values. The date was deliberately chosen to coincide with the spring equinox, symbolizing rebirth, growth, and new life. Over the following decade, the holiday gained widespread popularity and official government recognition across the Middle East, becoming an established annual civic observance across various Gulf and Arab nations. To commemorate Mother’s Day on March 21, 1964, Kuwait’s post administration issued a special stamp set printed by Joh. Enschede in the Netherlands to celebrate the role of mothers in society and foster social cohesion during a period of rapid modernization. By issuing dedicated commemorative postage on this date, the Kuwaiti government officially highlighted maternal health, family welfare, and the foundational role of women in raising the nation's future generations.
